Go ahead and book your massage! You deserve a good night's sleep! Let your mind drift away from a bad day at work or from your next car payment. Massage has been proven to decrease anxiety and relieve depression probably from the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin. Even in infants, studies have shown that babies sleep better with a gentle massage. Witold Drobrzanski RMT will be joining Rose Wellness on November 1st.
He brings a rich 26 years of experience with him. He came to my attention when we both were treating the same client for shoulder pain. He had great reviews. And together we improved the client's quality of life. Witold also does housecalls. Catherine Zillioto, our Shiatsu expert, has moved to another location. You can reach her anytime at shiatsucath@hotmail.com. We had a great working relationship for many years. I wish her the best. Running shoes on, bike tires inflated and the helmet at hand. You have set your 5k race goal, or maybe you want to try a triathlon this season. Perhaps you just want to get your daily walk in. How do you keep track of it all? I use the Fitbit Surge. Daily steps, distance, heart rate - it allows me to keep a record of my weekly progress. The Surge has a GPS. It creates a map of my outdoor exercise. The only problem is that it isn't water proof. I have to log my swims manually. Since the warranty was over after a year, it is time to look for other options. This review is helping me chose my next watch: http://www.reviews.com/fitness-tracker/ Technology is adding another dimension to exercise. But most importantly get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine! And of course, come for a massage. Snow is melting, time to put on those running shoes, get the bike out and get going! Even when there is a cold North wind the sun is now warmer. Give it a try! Set a goal for the spring - a 5k a 10k or aim for a try-a-tri or a longer triathlon. It is a lifestyle you will reap rewards from. Incubate good habbits, and the benefits will flower. Start with a 10 minute run or bike ride - maybe to the next main street and back. Do that every other day for a couple weeks. Then slowly increase your time out. Come in for a massage (or I can come to you!) while you are rediscovering your body and your potential. We can talk about your aches and pains and look for solutions. I will keep you motivated, and work with you to your goals. Weight loss, better mood, making new friends on the way. Well worth the effort! Massage Therapy will not be available on Monday April 4, 2016.
Catherine will be attending James Waslaski's Integrated Manual Therapy classes. The last issue of Triathlon Canada Magazine has an article that looks at whether science proves the benefits of massage therapy for athletic performance. This article was written by a physiotherapist, Jess Pearo. Here is his conclusion: Should athletes receive regular massages? The one benefit of having frequent massages is the athlete is able to develop a good relationship with a therapist who knows their body. A trained massage therapist or physiotherapist is able to pick up changes in the soft tissue which may be early signs of an injury or something which needs to be addressed. Whether or not a massage will improve a triathlete’s performance is up for debate, but it has been shown to improve the psychological state of an athlete. Further research is warranted in this area before we are able to give concrete evidence for it. Until then, enjoy the relaxation benefits. To read the complete article visit: http://triathlonmagazine.ca/news/fact-and-fiction-massage-therapy-and-athletic-performance/ It has been proven! Massage therapy will help recovery after a running race. For many years it has been suspected, but according to research published in both the Journal for Athletic Training and the British Journal of Sports Medicine, massage can help decrease the stress hormone cortisol which is connected to inflammation. Dr. Mark Rapaport, M.D. found that massage after exercise helped decrease Post Exercise Muscles Soreness which is that achy still feeling you get after a hard work out. It also increases several types of lymphocytes, blood cells that fight infection. "More research is needed, but it's reasonable think that massage could help runners taxed from exertion", Rappaport says.
